February Meeting Minutes
O
n February 20
th
, CAT held its first anni-
versary party. Although originally planned for
January, and after record sn owfalls in the
Washington, DC ar ea caused us to postpone
the anniver sar y party twice, we finally were
able to dig out and have our anniver sar y cele-
bration. As the planning for our party un-
folded, it also became appar ent, again because
of the record snowfalls in the area, that we
would not be able to have our club meeting in
the month of February. Banshee Reek s was
hopelessly snowed in. Vice President Dale
Bright suggested that we combine our delayed
anniv ersary party with a business meeting and
accomplish having a Februar y meeting after
all. That is exactly what we did on February
20.
Our party/meeting was a smashing suc-
cess. We gathered around 4:00 PM, everyone
bringing a dish for our potlu ck dinner. Our get
together was hosted by Whitestone Far ms in
Aldie, Virginia. Whitestone's manager, Mark
Duffel, a member of our club, arranged for us
to meet at Whiteston e Far m. We were also
fortunate that
George Lemm,
o wner of White-
stone Far m was
not only gener-
ous in hostin g
our par ty loca-
tion, but also at-
tended our party,
donated a few bottles o f fine wine fro m his
co llection for ou r raffle, pro vided the main
cour se of Angus beef for our dinner, and won a
turning tool in the raffle to boot!.
During our business meeting the club officially
elected Ron Cote as newsletter editor. We had
thr ee new guest families atten d our get to -
gether and had a total attendance of approxi-
mately 55 people. One of the main attractions
at our meeting was the special raffle, which
included a Jet JML-1014 min i lathe. The
lucky winner of th e lathe was club member
Dave Br own. Everyone had a great time, a
gr eat dinner, and a gr eat time to rest those
snow shoveling mu scles.

The thickness of a rough-turned bowl should be 10% of the diameter.
The final base width should be 1/3 of the diameter of the bowl.
The diameter of the base of a plate should be 2/3 the diameter. That makes it very stable but still works for
looks.
